A strong attendance of 35 and an interesting talk from World Champion Ploughman Mr John Hill with support from Mr Mick Fisher of Barugh & District Plough Association made for a good meeting at Durker Roods, Meltham on the evening of Friday 2nd February.
The talk covered The Association of Ploughmen. Recent competitions both in the UK and abroad, Mr Hills background & history. Topics included the world championships in Kenya and how the USA team had progressed from being a low rank team to a deserved win. A question and answer session was held that covered various tractors, ploughs, tyres & sponsorship.
Mr Fisher invited the audience to ‘Plough School’, an idea being formulated by the Barugh & District Plough Association to encourage newcomers and novices into the sport of ploughing.
The idea is for interested budding ploughmen to just turn up. Do not bring tractors or ploughs. Tractors and ploughs are to be supplied by ‘The School’. The reasoning to this is that the demonstrating tractors and ploughs will be set up for the day without down-time, ready to go straight to work.
The date for Plough School is Sunday 11th March from 10.00am prompt. The location is ; Norcroft Farm, Silkstone Lane, Cawthorne, Barnsley. S75 4JZThere is no cost but donations will be gladly received towards the cost of the day.
